AI coding tools felt different in scale, but familiar in pattern. The adoption pressure was immediate and real. The measurement was absent. We found ourselves asking the same questions in our own teams that we couldn't find answers to anywhere: which engineers were getting real value from these tools? Who was struggling? Was the code getting better or just faster?
We looked for a tool that could answer those questions plainly and without drama. It didn't exist. So we built it.
The industry has spent years encouraging developers to adopt AI tools and almost no time asking whether the output is any good. Velocity is a metric. Quality is a metric. Churn is a metric. All of them are measurable from your git history. The information is there — most teams just aren't looking at it.
Developers deserve to understand how their work is being seen. Managers deserve plain-speaking insight, not dashboards full of jargon they have to decode. Both things are true at once. Scryable exists at that intersection — making the same data legible to the person who wrote the code and the person who needs to explain it to a board.
Scryable should make engineering teams genuinely better — not create new ways to rank, judge, or pressure the people inside them. Data is in service of understanding. Understanding is in service of improvement. If we ever find ourselves building features that feel like surveillance, we've gone wrong somewhere.
Scryable is pro-AI. We want teams to get more from their tools, not less. We are optimistic but rigorous — AI is genuinely useful when used well, and worth watching carefully when it isn't. We are not here to second-guess the decision to adopt Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code. We are here to answer the question nobody else is answering: is it actually working for your team?
Not a management tool. Not a compliance requirement. A tool that engineering managers reach for because it makes them better at their jobs — and that developers trust because it treats their work with the seriousness it deserves.
We want to contribute to a broader, better understanding of code, programming, and the role AI plays in both. That starts with giving teams the clearest possible picture of what's actually happening in their codebase, right now.
